I have assisted several times to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Mexico and each one has been different and unique. You can see several designers constantly presenting their collections on the catwalk each year, but also each year different styles arrive, new talent is added and the locations and sponsors change. Let me share with you the details of the event and why you should go.
1. Where and when is it happening?
On May 2007, the first edition of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was held at the Sheraton Centro Historico Hotel. For the second edition, the World Trade Center was the main venue and later on, Campo Marte, the Hipódromo de las Américas and Santa Fe became the places where the fashion week took place.
Last year the venues were iconic places in Mexico City: El Colegio de las Vizcainas, La Casa del Lago, Ex Cine Las Américas and Fashion Lab. If you want to see the next edition locations you should keep on checking the official webpage fashionweek.mx for updates.
Each year there are 2 editions: Spring / Summer (during October or November) and Autumn / Winter (during April or May). Around 40 designers present their collection in 30 minutes shows that start in the morning around 11:30 hrs. and finish around 23:00 hrs.
2. Which designers participate?
Outstanding designers and national and international brands are always present in the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Mexico. It has become the best known fashion platform in the country that promotes designers to an international level; other designers have opened their own boutiques, started online stores or departmental stores have invited them to market their collections. The following are some of the designers (not all) that you can usually see:
- Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada (Spain)
- Alejandra Quesada
- Alejandro Carlin
- Alexia Ulibarri
- Ángel Sánchez (Venezuela)
- Benito Santos
- David Salomón
- Iván Ávalos
- Lydia Lavin
- Macario Jiménez
- Pineda Covalin
- Pink Magnolia
3. Which sponsors participate?
The importance of the sponsors that participate is that they give a unique atmosphere to the event. While waiting for the shows to start you can spend a great time with your friends visiting the sponsors’ stands.
In the last edition the sponsors were: Mercedes-Benz, Heineken, Sheraton, Head&Shoulders, MAC, Colgate, Tequila Centenario, Kaltex, EstiloDF, PARAGON, CMX, Compra Moda Nacional, Foto Museo Cuatro Caminos, CABIFY, CDMX and Fondo Mixto de Promoción Turística.
For instance, I spent a great time during the Heineken After Party the last edition.
Also, in 2015 E! Entertainment Television was part of the sponsors and they installed a very creative stand creating a true copy of Fashion Police set.
4. How can you go?
You need an invitation from designers or sponsors. I recommend you to check in the official fashionweek.mx website which are the designers that will be participating and then check their websites and Social Media. Usually they have different dynamics in which you can participate to win the invitations.
