English  |  Español  |  Deutsch

In 2013 I participated in the summer academy Waves of Democracy in Sønderborg, Denmark. Here students from all around Europe gathered to address challenges in culture and politics and discuss steps towards their solution. Let me share with you my experience as well as the application process, and how to participate in other study programs around the world.

1. What is Waves of Democracy?

a. The Summer Academy

The International Summer Academy welcomes young people from the region, from other European countries and abroad. It is a platform for dialogue, intercultural exchange and networking. In my experience it was amazing the amount of knowledge I acquired from the program as well as from the participants; it was full of clever people with different backgrounds contributing each one in a particular way to the dynamic conversations and activities that we had.

b. Activities

Workshops

The main topics discussed were Environment and Sustainability, Migration and Mobility, History and Memory and Entrepreneurship.

Sounds like such an amazing experience, one that reminds me of my experience as a student part of the People to People program offered in the United States where students in high school are selected to represent the United States as ambassadors. The activities, cultural experiences, and studies you discuss in your program are very similar to what I got to experience across four different countries in Europe! Would love to do it all over again!
