1. My experience visiting Giraffe House Cape Town

We visited Giraffe House as a family — my husband, our 1.5-year-old baby, and me — and it turned out to be one of the easiest and most fun outings near Cape Town.

The giraffes were incredibly gentle (yes, even with a toddler!), and our baby was able to touch them. We also spent a surprising amount of time feeding goats, alpacas, and peacocks — which was chaotic but very fun.

We rented a car to get there and combined the visit with a wine farm in Stellenbosch after. Highly recommend doing the same!

2. Giraffe House is a Wildlife Awareness Center

The park opened in April 2007, Giraffe House is not just about seeing animals — it’s about learning. The goal is to teach visitors about wildlife conservation and why protecting animals matters.

There are educational signs and talks throughout the park, making it a great experience for both kids and adults.

3. Location: easy day trip from Cape Town

Giraffe House is located at the corner of the R304 and R101 in Muldersvlei, Stellenbosch.

👉 From Cape Town: about 30–40 minutes by car
👉 Best way to get there: rent a car

Pro tip: Combine your visit with a Stellenbosch wine farm for the perfect day (animals + wine 🍷 = balance).

Giraffe House is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, making it easy to fit into your Cape Town itinerary.

4. Entry fees: budget-friendly activity

One of the best things? It’s affordable:

  • Adults: R90
  • Kids (2–15): R65
  • Pensioners R65

If you pre book the Giraffe 1 on 1 encounter, the entry is included.

Compared to other Cape Town attractions, this is a great-value activity.

5. Giraffe feeding: the main highlight

Let’s be honest — this is why you’re going.

You can get incredibly close to the giraffes, and they are calm and gentle. Even our baby was able to interact with them safely.

For a more exclusive experience, you can book a private giraffe interaction:

  • ~R450 adults
  • ~R350 kids
  • Duration: ~30 minutes

Book in advance via email, the One on One Giraffe Experience works with pre-bookings only.

You can read more information about the Giraffe experience as well as owls and snakes interactions HERE.

  • Meerkats
  • Flamingos
  • Crocodiles
  • Birds and reptiles

This makes it especially great for older kids who want to see more than just one animal.

It works for toddlers and older children — everyone will find something to enjoy.

You can also host a party at separate function facilities located at The Giraffe House Wildlife Awareness Centre.

10. Food options: simple on-site or Stellenbosch upgrade

There is a small shop called “Banana Fountain” offering snacks, drinks, and souvenirs, plus a picnic area. “Giraffic Eats” Kiosk is also available on site.

But if you’re looking for something more special, head to Stellenbosch after your visit for a proper meal or wine tasting — like we did.

Final thoughts: Is Giraffe House worth it?

Yes — especially if you’re traveling with kids or looking for a relaxed, unique experience near Cape Town.

It’s not a luxury attraction, but it’s authentic, fun, and memorable. And if your baby ends up touching a giraffe… well, that’s hard to beat.
